For the past several years, Vice Chairman of the Legislature Stan Brownell and Legislator Lester Goodermote have been working with residents to improve the safety on State Route 7 in Hoosick. There have been a number of accidents and roll-overs involving tractor trailers and tanker trucks.
The accidents and roll-overs have caused disruptions to travel and in a handful of cases, the discharge of fuel and oil into streams and areas along the road. Route 7 is an important road for residents and businesses, connecting the Troy to eastern Rensselaer County and the Vermont border. Maintaining and improving safety on Route 7 is important, and Stan and Les and other legislators have made numerous requests to the state for a review of safety conditions.
We are happy to report those requests have paid off with the state agreeing to install new signs and warnings on the road to alert motorists, particularly those unfamiliar with the road. The safety improvements were announced by the state earlier this month, and the improvements are expected to be completed this month. Good work by Stan and Lester in keeping on top of this issue and getting results for motorists and residents.
