Setting the Schedule

As we ease into a cold start for January and 2014, there are some schedules and information to announce and provide to residents regarding the Rensselaer County Legislature. First, the schedule for the regular monthly meetings for the Legislature has been set, with meetings starting with a public presentation at 5:30 p.m. and the start of the meeting at 6 p.m. in the legislative chambers, located on the third floor of the County Office Building, 1600 7th Avenue, downtown Troy. All are welcome to attend.

The regular monthly meetings are usually held on the second Tuesday of each month, except in September, due to Primary Day, and November, due to Veteran’s Day. The schedule for meetings is as follows: January 14, February 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 12, and December 9.

Each month, the Legislature holds a Public Forum where residents have the ability to speak to legislators on any topic. The public forums are held the first Wednesday of each month at 6 p.m., also in the legislative chambers.

Also, each month legislators join with veterans, residents and other elected officials for the monthly Honor a Deceased Veteran ceremony. The ceremony takes place in the legislative chambers, and on January 13, we will be honoring the life and service of Dr. Thomas Cinelli. Tom was a veteran of the Marines during the early 1960s, and well-known to many as a dentist in Castleton for several decades.

Residents can visit www.rensselaercounty.org for updates on the legislative calendar and other news. In a follow-up post, we will detail committee assignments for 2014. Thank you.
